Folding Blade Knives
Byrd is a subsidiary of Spyderco and the Spyderco influence will be apparent to anyone handling the Cara Cara 2. Many distinctive features of Spyderco knives are included in the knife, including the FRN handle, thumbhole, and distinctive blade shape. The first generation Cara Cara was an excellent and this one is even better. The Byrd Cara Cara 2 is a great knife at an affordable price.
With over 20 years of production encompassing three generations, the Spyderco Police has been one the longest running Spyderco models. The earlier models of the Police were exceptional EDC knives and the third generation continues that legacy. Some may like to view the Police 3 as an extra large version of the Endura, but I feel like it is more than that. The knife has amazing blade to handle ratio.
The Spyderco P’Kal is a one of a kind knife. As a collaboration between Shivworks and Spyderco, the P’Kal is based from Filipino martial arts and primarily serves as a self defense tool. This is definitely one of those knives that any collector would be thrilled to have in their collection just for its unique design. But for those who are really into self-defense, the Spyderco P’Kal is the ultimate weapon. The literal translation of the Filipino word “Pikal” is “to rip,” and the design between Spyderco and Shivworks does just that. As a self-defense tool, Pikal is wielded using a reverse grip with the sharpened edge facing inward toward the user. Pikal is designed for rapidly and effectively striking and surprising your opponent.

Back in 1998 the Spyderco Calypso (Caly) made a name for itself, dominating the knife scene thanks to its 4 inch blade and micarta handle. 14 years later, Spyderco is on its third generation of the Caly and each model has gotten better and better. One of the main complaints about the earlier versions was that the ergonomics weren’t great. Spyderco listened to the critics; the latest version of the Spyderco Caly fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. The Spyderco Caly 3 is improved in every way be it blade design or style. This knife has a little bit of panache, meaning you can carry it in your Carharts or concealed in a suit. I got my Caly 3 mainly as a collectible but this thing is built like a bank vault and this knife is now one of my favorite EDC’s

When you hear the words “gentleman’s knife”, Frank Centofante’s designed Spyderco Centofante 3 is an example that should come to mind. I imagine such a knife being light, classy, and utilitarian. The Spyderco Centofante 3 fits the bill. It’s a really slick looking knife that can be carried during backyard or black-tie events.

What is essentially Spyderco’s flagship knife, the Spyderco Delica, has become the definition of the classic EDC. As one of Spyderco’s best selling knives, the Delica packs a powerful punch in a small 7 1/8 inch knife. It’s a quality folder that is reliable and up for most every day tasks. Just by looking at it, you can see that this pocket knife has serious utility capabilities.

Spyderco’s Manix2 is a follow-up to the successful Manix series of knives, replacing the original lock back design with a ball bearing lock and utilizing a hollow saber grind. The Manix2 is a really nice folding knife and I’m really excited to go over it today. It’s a bit heavy for a folder, though certainly lighter than many other folding blades on the market and while this might scare some people away, I think this is a wonderful EDC (Every-Day-Carry) knife. It handles great, and is solidly built. If the weight bothers you, I urge you to try it out. You’ll be getting a really capable knife that’s weight is more than offset by its capabilities.

Spyderco has two amazing knives in the Sage series and the Sage 2, which boasts the titanium handle, is a beautifully crafted and highly effective knife that often times overshadows the Spyderco Sage 1. That being said, I think it is important that knife enthusiasts take a look at the Spyderco Sage 1 simply because it is the foundation of the Sage 2 and in my opinion the better knife of the two. It has all the muscle you need in an EDC (Everyday Carry Knife).

In many ways the Endura is Spyderco’s signature knife. The original Endura was revolutionary for its time. It was the first lightweight production folder to feature a pocket-carry clip and have a one-hand operable, high-carbon, performance blade. The model has been so popular that it’s currently in it’s 4th generation. I love little lightweight folders, so I was excited to get my Endura and put it through the paces.
